Buckeye Chickens

We raise Buckeye Chickens. A heritage bird developed by Nettie Metcalf of Warren Ohio in 1896. They are a hardy breed that is good at foraging. They follow our goats and pigs to eat flies and other insects. They also scratch at and spread the poop from our large herbivores making the soil that much more fertile.

We got out first batch in March 2023. From there they were put into a brooder. Then into two brooders. And finally out into the yard with their guardian dog Ariel. Most were big enough to stay in the poultry netting, but a couple were just small enough that they became our garage supervisors(below you can see when Garagé inspected the bottom of the tractor after an oil change).
