Livestock Guardian Dogs
We currently employ two livestock guardian dogs. Both are Anatolian Sheperds.
Originally from the Turkish mountains and bred as guardian dogs for goats, sheep and children. They are quite large and very protective. They are a match for all our local predators including foxes, coyotes, and bears.
Vazy is a BIG boy that protects the goats. He weighs between 160 and 180 pounds. He is very large for the breed and has some troubles with his joints as he gets older. But so far that doesn’t stop him from protecting his little herd of goats. He is only seven, so he has a lot of good years still ahead of him.
Ariel is a lovely girl that protects our chickens. She is about 120 pounds and very energetic. At three years old she is the youngest dog on the farm.
